Using Internet Marketing to Build a Network Marketing Business is Stupid!

I can hear it now. Blasphemer, that's sacrilegious...BURN HIM AT THE STAKE. I can picture the townspeople coming at me now, pitch forks and axes in hand, and torches raised in anger!!

Now for the record, If you are using internet marketing techniques to generate leads for your network marketing business I do not think that you are stupid.. For those of you still trying to shove that pitchfork in me let me say it again, louder.

"IF YOU ARE USING INTERNET MARKETING TECHNIQUES TO GENERATE LEADS FOR YOUR NETWORK MARKETING BUSINESS I DO NOT THINK YOU ARE STUPID"

Here is what I do think is a little stupid (or at best a little naive)

People thinking that the ONLY skill they need to learn to develop a large and profitable network marketing business are the skills surrounding internet marketing and all that entails.

News Flash - Its Not!

Internet Marketing and online lead generation are wonderful things to automate and make more effective the drudgery of network marketing. But if you think it's the only skill well.... (Put that pitchfork down please)

Network Marketing is comprised of two things

Networking and Marketing For far too long the old school network marketing "Gurus" mostly taught people how to network, and taught far too little about how to effectively market both products and business opportunities.

And like most things that change. The New School "Gurus" seem to swing the pendulum the other way with the sole focus being on generating leads, so much so that its now acceptable that network marketers tend to be "nomadic" and move from opportunity to opportunity.

I'll admit learning how to incorporate internet marketing into my daily routine has revolutionized how I do business. It's made finding the "right people" extremely effective.

You may be asking "So why the controversial title Tim?"

Because we need to "stop throwing the baby out with the bath water" so to speak. The old school gurus still knew a thing or two about a thing or two about holding a network together.

They knew how to create raving fans

They flat MASTERED referral marketing

And I'll even go so far as to say they were effective leaders and taught well on leadership, even though that may turn a few of you "disgruntled" networkers off a little. I'll not judge here whether or not the direction that they were (or are) leading people to is still valid, but there is no denying they can lead.

In future articles I'll be talking about how to merge the great things of both "schools" of Network Marketing in an effort to clear the mine field so you can build a profitable network marketing business. Till then...
